Collection material is primarily in German, Russian, and English.
The following terms have been used to index the description of this collection in the LC Catalog. They are grouped by name of person or organization, by subject or location, and by occupation and listed alphabetically.
These posters and broadsides were presumably collected by Allied authorities in post-war Germany and were found along with other materials that comprise the Library's Third Reich Collection.
The title of this collection was devised by Library staff. The items were rehoused in 14 boxes and in two portfolios. Many items are in poor condition. Because these posters and broadsides were found in their unprocessed state with the Third Reich Collection materials, Gassert and Mattern [mistakenly] included these items in their bibliography and cited this collection as: "Posters, bundled, mainly from the Russian Occupied Zone, and Posters, 3 boxes." Please note that the oversize posters in this collection have not been processed and rehoused to the same extent as other collection items and are therefore more problematic to be served to researchers.
The status of copyright in the unpublished writings within the Post-World War II posters from Germany, 1945-1947, in the custody of the Library of Congress is governed by the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S.C.).
The records of the Post-World War II posters from Germany, 1945-1947, are open to research. Researchers are advised to contact the Rare Book and Special Collections Reading Room prior to visiting. Many collections are stored off-site and advance notice is needed to retrieve these items for research use. The oversize posters in this collection have not been rehoused and are more problematic to be served to researchers. Please make note of this and plan for more retrieval time for oversized items.
Researchers wishing to cite this collection should include the following information: Container number, Post-World War II posters from Germany, 1945-1947, Rare Book and Special Collections Division, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
