Cristián García-Godoy was born on June 3, 1924, in Mendoza, Argentina. He was educated at La Salle Colegio Carmen Arriola de Marin in Buenos Aires province and earned a law degree from the University of Buenos Aires. After an early career in banking and a position as minister of the economy of Rio Negro province, García-Godoy came to Washington, D.C., as an international civil servant in the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States. Concurrently, García-Godoy pursued his interest in Argentine history publishing books and articles and teaching history at the Argentine School of Washington, D.C. He founded the San Martín Society of the United States. García-Godoy retired from the Organization of American States in 1989 as Director of the Department of International Treaties. He died March 8, 2011, in McLean, Virginia.
