The papers of George B. McClellan, public official and educator, were given to the
Library of Congress by his wife, Georgiana Louise Heckscher McClellan, in 1951.
Processing History
The papers of George B. McClellan were arranged and described in 1956. The finding aid
was revised in 2013 by Sister Mary Amata. The finding aid was updated in 2024 by Maria
Farmer as part of a division-wide remediation project by the Inclusive Description
Working Group.
Copyright Status
Copyright in the unpublished writings of George B. McClellan in these papers and in
other collections of papers in the custody of the Library of Congress has been dedicated
to the public.

The papers of George B. McClellan (1865-1940) span the years 1838-1922. The collection
consists mainly of correspondence; scrapbooks kept as a student at Princeton; a diary of
military experiences in World War I; subject files relating mainly to McClellan's
political activities; articles, lectures, and other writings; printed matter;
