given to the Library of Congress by his son, John M. Newell, in 1944.
Processing History
The Newell Papers were processed and described in 1982. The finding aid was revised
in 2009.

Scope and Content Note
The papers of Frederick Haynes Newell (1862-1932) span the years 1885-1931. The
collection consists of correspondence, diaries, articles, subject files, and clippings
relating primarily to Newell's service in the United States Reclamation Service and on
the United States Public Lands Commission and the National Advisory Board for Fuels and
Structural Materials. Included are personal and family materials and notes of his son,
Roger S. Newell. The collection is organized into four series: [
