Congress in 1985.
Processing History
The letterpress books of Aaron Ward Weaver were arranged and described in 1997. The
finding aid was revised in 2009 by Bradley E. Gernand. The finding aid was updated in
2023 by Maria Farmer as part of a division-wide remediation project by the Inclusive
Description Working Group.

Scope and Content Note
The letterpress books of Aaron Ward Weaver (1832-1919) span the dates 1861-1884 and
consist of records of the United States Navy sloop of war the Brooklyn. Two volumes of letterpress copies of routine correspondence by
Weaver concern ships stores, maintenance, operation, and ports of call along the eastern
coast of South America and the southwestern and southern coasts of Africa during
Weaver's command of the Brooklyn during its service with
the South Atlantic Squadron, 1882-1884. A lithograph of the Brooklyn published in 1861 is the only item in these papers reflecting the
ship's extensive service in the Civil War.
