The papers of E. Alexander Powell (1879-1957) span the period 1893-1957 and consist of family and general correspondence, diaries, articles, book proofs, poetry, a speech, biographical materials, drawings, photographs, an award, notes, menus, memorabilia and clippings and other printed matter.
The Family Papers consist chiefly of letters Powell wrote to his parents, Edward A. and Lucy Powell, while he was in Europe. There are also letters from Powell to his wife, Jessie Northrup Powell, and letters she wrote to her parents. Also included are diaries of trips Jessie Powell took with her husband.
The General Correspondence consists of incoming letters. Among the correspondents are Poultney Bigelow, William Jennings Bryan, Warren G. Harding, J. J. Jusserand, John J. Pershing, Ralph Pulitzer, Theodore Roosevelt, Ellery Sedgwick, and Leonard Wood.
The Literary File contains articles, book proofs, and poems. The Miscellany contains biographical material, drawings, photographs, clippings relating to various members of the Powell and Northrup families, a report on Powell at Antwerp, Belgium, and printed matter relating to Powell.
