Gary W. North was born June 24, 1939 and died October 29, 2013. In 1962, he was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force and served four years active duty, after which he worked as a civilian for the Air Force. He also worked for Raytheon Corporation. North was hired by the U.S. Geological Survey, where he worked for more than 30 years. He formed North Arrow Ltd. and consulted for the Library of Congress, Geography and Map Division. He helped process cartographic materials, such as the Heezen-Tharp collection and its sub-collections.
Collection consists of 24 items, primarily an exihibtion of illustrations and remote-sensing photographs taken by the NASA ERTS-1 satellite; it includes two unrelated volumes, one by the Ordnance Survey of Great Britain and the other a compilation of Stereograms, seemingly used for instruction.
