Summary

  • The Children's Africana Book Awards encourages the publication and use of accurate, balanced children's materials on Africa in the U.S. schools and libraries. Eric Walters was one of the 2013 winners for his book, "The Matatu," about a young Kenyan boy who takes a ride on the matatu bus with his grandfather for his fifth birthday. Walters conducts a presentation to elementary students from the District of Columbia about his book and the country, Kenya, that inspired it.
