Carol Olive Haley née Dillon was born December 25, 1919 in Los Angeles, California. In 1943, she joined the United States Navy WAVES (Navy Women's Reserve), and served as a procurement officer and as a recruiter in New Orleans, Louisiana; Birmingham, Alabama; and at Camp Parks, California. While serving, Haley dated Bernley Asel and John Haley, eventually marrying John on January 19th, 1946.
After the war, Haley and John lived within the Los Angeles suburb of Tarzana, where Haley worked as a service representative for Pacific Telephone for the entirety of her career. They retired to Eagle, Idaho in 1978, where Haley completed her B.A. in communications at Boise State College. She served on the city council for the city of Eagle, as the first female mayor of Eagle, and also ran for the Idaho state legislature in 1992. Haley died on May 30, 2003 in Eagle, Idaho.
Collection includes correspondence, creative works, military papers, and photographs related to Carol Haley's service in the United States Navy WAVES during World War II. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Haley and her boyfriend, Bernley Asel, as well as her future husband, John Haley.
