Title

  • Evidence against the views of the abolitionists : consisting of physical and moral proofs, of the natural inferiority of the Negroes

Summary

  • Colfax discusses the racial inferiority of African Americans, in contradistinction to the arguments of the abolitionist. He says blacks and whites have different origins and that change in the current status of the African American will not change in his nature. He argues on the basis of physical distinctions (skin color and effect of climate upon it, skull structure, etc.) and mental distinctions that show African Americans to be closer to "lower" creatures than whites, and he opposes emancipation of slaves in the U.S.
