Biographical Note
Dr. Albert R. Miller worked as a medical doctor in Detroit, but also became involved
in other business ventures over the course of his life. In 1917, he established his
own investment banking firm on Wall Street in New York. In 1932, he founded a
banking firm. At the age of sixty he took up portrait photography and started his
own studio, Miller of Washington, in Washington, D.C.
Scope and Content Note
The Miller of Washington collection of photographic portraits of notables contains
portraits of prominent political, scientific, and academic figures that visited
Washington D.C. in the early to mid-1950s. The list includes incomplete and
unverified information on the position, organization, and location of the sitter.
Some abbreviations in this collection include: Colonel (Col.), General (Gen.),
Admiral (Adm.), Judge (Hon.), and Doctor (Dr.). Location seems to most often be
listed as Washington, D.C. since Miller's portrait studio was located there.
Arrangement
Portraits are mostly arranged alphabetically by last name of sitter, a few images are
out of alphabetical order and filed at the end of the collection.
