Scope and Content Note
The digest of congressional reports compiled by Francis Orman Jonathan
Smith (1806-1876) in 1844 consists of handwritten drafts and clippings from
printed records of the reports of committees of the Senate and House of
Representatives from the First to the Twenty-eight Congress. Included is a
printed prospectus. Smith was a United States Representative from Maine from
1833-1839 and chairman of the Committee on Commerce from 1837-1839.
