Scope and Content Note
The papers of Henry Clay Taylor (1845-1904) span the years 1862-1904,
with the bulk of the material concentrated in the period 1897-1900. The
collection consists of correspondence; Taylor's writings, including an
unpublished novel, "Naroonya"; printed matter pertaining to the
Spanish-American War; and photographs. The major portion of the correspondence
consists of copies of letters written when Taylor commanded the USS
Indiana (battleship).
Prominent correspondents include George Dewey, Samuel C. Lemley,
Stephen Bleeker Luce, C. R. P. Rodgers, and William Thomas Sampson.
