The Cyril Clemens Collection spans the years 1686-1982, with the bulk of the material dating from 1927 to 1970. The collection consists of letters, chiefly photocopies, received from various prominent people relating to the International Mark Twain Society or to some aspect of Samuel Langhorne Clemens's life or literary works. Also included are several books on Samuel Langhorne Clemens written by Cyril Clemens and copies of historical letters and documents collected by him, the earliest of which is a letter written by James II, king of England, in 1686.
