Scope and Content Note
The papers of Katharine Amend Kellock (1892-1984) pertain primarily to
her work in several government agencies from 1935 until her retirement in 1952.
The largest portion pertains to the Federal Writers' Project, where Kellock
worked as editor of the American Guide series, and contains correspondence,
reports, memoranda, press clippings, and a typescript history of the project.
Other material relates to Kellock's employment at the Resettlement
Administration and at the State Department where she focused on German affairs
and worked for several years at the Division of Occupied Areas Economic
Affairs. An additional file contains correspondence, letters of recommendation,
reports, loyalty hearing transcripts, and other items relating to her dealings
with the House Committee on Un-American Activities headed by Martin Dies and
investigations by the Civil Service Commission and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.
