The papers primarily pertain to Mosby's Civil War activities, including the organization and activities of Mosby's Rangers, treatment of prisoners of war, casualties, the death of Major John Pelham, the capture of General Edwin H. Stoughton, and raids and skirmishes in northern Virginia. Correspondents include Jubal Anderson Early, Joseph E. Johnston, Robert E. Lee, Mosby's wife, Pauline Mosby, Alexander Hamilton Stephens, and Jeb Stuart.
