The papers of the Moore family span the years 1942-1998 and consist of correspondence, writings, civilian and military manuals, war ration books, photographs, military papers, notes, and a genealogy. The correspondence was written mainly between Sidney Leighton Moore (1906-1953) and his wife, Violet Soderquist Moore, while Sidney was serving in the United States Army during World War II, first at Fort Custer in Michigan, and later in Hawaii and Guam. Moore wrote to his wife about army life while she wrote to him about their children, relatives, and home life in Montezuma, Georgia. Other members of the family whose correspondence is represented include Sidney Moore's mother, Adrianne Harp Moore, and Violet Moore's brothers, Earl Soderquist and Wallace Soderquist, who were also serving in the military. The papers also contain a transcription of the letters between Sidney and Violet edited by their daughter, Kristina Simms. Other works by Simms include poetry and
