The papers of Wilhelm Fliess were given to the Library of Congress by Anna Freud in 1970. Additional items were given by the Sigmund Freud Archives between 1964 and 1987.
The collection consists of material transferred from the Sigmund Freud Papers in 1990 and 2001, including a letter from Oscar Rie (1895), two letters from Fliess (1894, 1925), and items concerning the plagiarism controversy.
Sigmund Freud’s letters to Fliess (1887-1904), an important source on the formative years of psychoanalysis, are located in the Sigmund Freud Papers in the Manuscript Division of the Library of Congress.

Also featured in the papers are letters dated 1894-1898 from Joseph Breuer, a letter from Oscar Rie dated 1895, an undated draft of a writing by Fliess entitled “Die Entdeckung der Dauernden Doppelgeschlechtigkeit: Eine geschichtliche Darstellung,” and reminiscences by Fliess’s son, Conrad Fliess, contained in a letter to Richard Pfennig.
