The oral history interviews of Pioneers in Housing: An Oral History Project were given to the Library of Congress by Morton J. Schussheim in 2002 and 2013.
The oral history interviews of Pioneers in Housing: An Oral History Project were processed in 2010. A small addition and digital files were processed in 2014.
Digital files were received as part of the Pioneers in Housing papers on a variety of storage media, each of which was assigned a unique digital ID number. The records of Pioneers in Housing: An Oral History Project oral history interviews span the years 1981-1996 with the bulk of the material dating from 1993 to 1995. They consist of transcripts in both paper and digital format of oral history interviews conducted by Morton J. Schussheim, senior specialist in housing in the Congressional Research Service at the Library of Congress. Interviewees discussing the development of public housing and community planning include officials in the Department of Housing and Urban Development and its predecessor, the Housing and Home Finance Agency, educators in urban studies, and community developers. Among the interviewees are Albert M. Cole, Philip M. Klutznick, James W. Rouse, Robert C. Weaver, and Coleman Woodbury. The collection also contains a self-published memoir by Morton J. Schussheim entitled, "This I Remember (or Looked Up): A Houser's Story (2010). Digital files in this collection were created in 1994 and consist of the interview transcripts organized by name of interviewee. The files are a subset of the printed interview transcripts and are in WordPerfect format.
