Charles Edward Goad was born in London, England, on March 15, 1848. He immigrated to Canada in 1868. He established the Charles E. Goad Company in 1875, which was based in Montreal. With his business booming, particularly mapping Canadian localities, Goad returned to England to open a bureau in 1885. Goad died in Toronto on June 10, 1910. His three sons continued to run the business under the name Chas. E. Goad Company.
