Christopher Moore recorded many of the early Indian Neck Folk Festival concerts and
events, and also recorded at other venues. He dubbed copies of an unidentified
number of the original INFF recordings to cassette, and gave them to the Indian Neck
Folk Festival organization. The Indian Neck Folk Festival collection (AFC 2016/002)
includes these recordings. The original recordings remain with the current
collection.

Administrative History
The Indian Neck Folk Festival was founded by student members of the Yale University
Folk Music Club and others and held in 1958, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1965, 1966, and since
then usually held annually on a weekend in May. The group raised money for the
festival by hosting a series of public folk music concerts in New Haven,
Connecticut, and other locations. Around 1970 the non-profit organization cut its
ties with Yale. From about 1977 to 1985 the festival administration was based in
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and hosted a number of concerts there and in other
locations, while continuing to hold the Indian Neck Folk Festival, by invitation
only, in Falls Village, Connecticut. Audio engineer Christopher Moore recorded some
of the earlier festivals and other concerts.
Biographical Note
Christopher Moore (1943-2022) was interested in audio electronics since childhood.
While at Yale (Class of 1965), and for a time thereafter, he recorded some of the
earliest Indian Neck Folk Festival concerts and events. He used his own money to
make the recordings, with the understanding that he provide copies to the Indian
Neck Folk Festival organization. These are included in the Indian Neck Folk Festival
collection (AFC 2016/002). In addition, he recorded musicians as they worked in the
studio, such as Rick and Lorraine Lee, Andy Woolf, and Lou Houck. Outside of his
work as an audio engineer, he was a well-known and respected developer of the Space
Station SST-282 (for signal delay and reverb) and a consultant to companies
interested in audio technology research.

WOR-FM, NY fills the rest of the tape (and file). The date is
unknown but is definitely the week of June 12, 1967, due to comments
Murray makes about The Doors appearing at a show with them (WOR)
"this past Sunday."

1 sound tape reel
(polyester; Side A: 00:48:22, Side B: 00:48:22) : analog, 7 1/2 ips,
half track, mono ; 7 in.
This tape is
very much a hodge-podge of seemingly unrelated airchecks, recordings
of records, and *possibly* a bit of a true live concert sourced from
either a radio broadcast or a commercial recording (the first
segments of Side A). The body of both sides of the tape is an
undated aircheck or airchecks of live Boston Pops broadcast(s). On
Side B, the unrelated content continues until about 00:32:07. The
segment with Joan Baez starts about 00:34:06, and appears to be a
live in-studio performance and interview on an unidentified folk
music radio program. She is referred to Joan Chandos in the
interview segments. There are no station ID's nor does the host give
his name. The recording is very good though her third song is
incomplete due to the tape running out. The aircheck continues on
[SR085](ead10095).
Side A is content
unrelated to the collection. Baez sings and accompanies herself on
guitar.
Scope and content: Songs performed by
Joan Chandos (Joan Baez): "Karev Yom" [Israeli; roughly translates
as "The Day Draws Near"]. Then the disc jockey plays "Drill Tarriers
Drill," a recording by the Weavers, followed by "Fi-Li-Mi-Oo-Re-Ay"
(also called "Paddy on the Railway"), also by the Weavers. Interview
segments are interspersed between songs. Next songs performed by
Baez: "Take This Hammer" and "Black Is the Color" (also called
"Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair"). Original ID number:

1 sound tape reel
(polyester; File 1: 00:10:30, File 2: 00:07:11, File 3: 00:01:53) :
analog, 7 1/2 ips, half track, stereo ; 7 in.
There are two
fragments at the end of the reel, unrelated to the main recording.
The first is a very brief aircheck in half track mono format from
New York City FM radio station WBFM, 101.9 FM, circa late 1963-early
1964. The brief break in the aircheck with very slow-sounding music
is from what was originally recorded on the tape in full track
format and is part of fragment two, and can be heard in full and at
correct speed there.
