Notes

  • -  Interview with Milagros Cueto and Aurora Goicoechea. Milagros provided translation for Aurora. Both women work for Elsa Mantilla, making dresses on the third floor of her shop on 21st Avenue.
  • -  Summary of audio segment: TC asks about Dominican music. Is there a Dominican owned music store in town? MC says there are some influences from Africa, then asks what I mean. MC says there's all type of music here. She says that in the house where she lives, there are Puerto Ricans on the first floor, herself, a Dominican, on the second floor, on the third floor, Colombians. On Saturday morning when the people are cleaning the house and relaxing, on the first floor you can hear Puerto Rican music, like in the parade. AG says plena, bamba, as examples. MC says on her floor you can hear merengue, on the third floor cumbia music. It's crazy. But don't have problems, they live together, respect each other.
