About this Item

Title

  • Anthony Incandela interview conducted by Setare S. Arashloo and Barrie Cline and Jaime Lopez, 2017-01-05

Summary

  • Born and raised in Deer Park, Long Island, Anthony Incandela speaks about his family's union background and the impact it has had on his life. He talks about his experiences as a fairly "green" A-Journeyman in his current job site at Brooklyn's Coney Island Hospital. He recalls previous jobs as a teacher's aid at BOCES, mortgage salesman, and a short order cook, and how he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast & Communications. He discusses how his desire for physical work and his love for electricity led him to change careers at age 27; and speaks about his on-the-job relationships and how Local 3 becomes a family. He explains the different personalities found on the job and the evolution of acceptance in our industry--crediting the new generation with being more inclusive of different groups. After ending, we turned the recorder back on to talk about not following in his father's footsteps as a Local #1 Plumber and the dynamics involved family rivalry.
